I’m Allister Freeman, a professional Berkshire wedding photographer with many years’ experience of weddings in Berkshire, the UK and Europe. My photography has led me to work with couples across a variety of cultures and faiths and in all kinds of interesting locations – from the traditional to the downright quirky and everything in between.

Recognised as ‘The Royal County’ by the Queen herself, Berkshire is a just stone’s throw from London, but you could be fooled into thinking it’s a world away from the frantic busyness of the capital. Home to Windsor Castle, the residence of the royal family, and the infamous British boy’s boarding school, Eton, you’d be forgiven for thinking the county is an elitist one. But there’s more than meets the eye in Berkshire, where castles and thatched cottages meet Europe’s largest trading estate. 

If you’re looking for a truly classy and elegant destination to hold your Berkshire wedding and of course, photos, you need to look no further than Berkshire. It’s no wonder that Highclere Castle, the Jacobethan style 5000-acre estate that is the real Downton Abbey. 

If you have no interest in swanning around like the Crawely’s, and instead you’re looking for a location that’s a little more intimate then Berkshire, like the rest of the Home Counties, boasts some enchanting little villages. Just a couple of miles from Maidenhead, you’ll find the village of Bray, a picturesque pocket of the county where you can find plenty of outside hideaways to pitch up a marquee and a catalogue of country houses to hire.

If you’re going for a rustic style wedding, you could say your ceremony vows on an old working farm, at a wedding venue like Lillibrooke Manor in Berkshire, where the owners have created space in their historic family-run grounds for a beautiful countryside event.

Berkshire Wedding Venues

Ever thought about getting married on your very own Island? Even just to tell your friends you’re getting married on your very own island….? To offer your family and friends a truly unique experience, you could jump in a boat or cross the footbridge to Monkey Island, near Bray, in the middle of the Thames, and find yourself left alone with an elegant 18th-century mansion. Who needs to travel to the Caribbean?

The unique detail in these kinds of Berkshire venues deserves to be made the most of by your wedding photographer. The backdrop to your wedding day is just as important as the dress, the speeches, the wedding photography, the cherished moments with your guests. This is why I love being a reportage wedding photographer, the name given to the natural style in which I choose to photograph weddings. There’s no awkward 90’s poses, or fake moments. Instead, I aim to capture the story of your wedding day in a natural manner, seizing the authenticity and sentimentality of a moment as it happens – so that you’ll look back at your wedding album and immediately be transported. 

I have had the privilege of travelling to Cookham for Berkshire weddings in the past, a lovely little Thames-side spot in Berkshire and home to the renowned artist Stanley Spencer. If you’re looking for the whole works, the full shebang – rooms for your guests, several suites, exquisite dining rooms and gorgeous gardens as far as the eye can see, Cookham is home to Clivedon House, a 5-star wedding venue and spa, making its statement in the heart of the British Countryside. Most people who don’t know Berkshire already will at least know of Ascot racecourse, one of the leading horse racing courses in the UK. If you’re a couple who love the horse racing scene, you can, in fact, choose to host your wedding reception in one of their bespoke wedding rooms. You’ll have no problem with figuring out a dress code, as Royal Ascot is just as famous for its fashion as it is its racing. 

Second to jockeys and fascinators, non-natives will inevitably associate the county with Windsor, and most notably Windsor Castle, the second residence of the Royal Family. There are some stunning hotspots to visit in this picturesque and historic Berkshire town; it’s a wedding photographers dream. Windsor Great Park for instance, that stretches almost the entire 8 miles between Windsor and Ascot. You can expect nothing less than elaborate beauty in gardens so close to a Royal home, where you’ll find deer roaming, exotic plants and ancient woodland at your feet.

I revel in photographing the intimate cultural moments during any wedding, especially in my trademark reportage wedding photography style. I photograph moments as they happen, meaning that when you look back at your album you’ll be transported back to that moment, with authenticity, filled with all of that emotion you were feeling (whether tears of heartfelt emotion or tears of sheer laughter!).
